SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Research articles submitted to the journal “Ethnomusic” must address current scholarly issues in the field of ethnomusicology, be grounded in a clear methodological framework, and take into account as well as critically engage with contemporary research on the selected topic.
Submissions must include:
– a clearly formulated research aim;
– a research methodology;
– defined research objectives;
– substantiated scholarly results;
– well-argued conclusions.
Scientific novelty, originality, and the theoretical or practical significance of the research are mandatory.
Submitted materials must comply with the journal’s scientific and technical requirements.
When using materials by other authors (illustrations, diagrams, musical examples, photographs, etc.), it is necessary to:
– provide accurate references;
– comply with copyright regulations.
The list of references (in alphabetical order, in the original language) is placed at the end of the article. It should be formatted in accordance with the bibliographic description rules as specified in the Bulletin of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine dated October 22, 2015 (DSTU 8302:2015), taking into account subsequent amendments and updates.
The References section reproduces the list of sources in the Latin alphabet and presents Cyrillic sources in transliterated form. An English translation is provided in square brackets. The order of sources in the References section must correspond to their order in the main list of references. Transliteration is carried out according to the language of the original, in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 of January 27, 2010 “On the Standardization of the Transliteration of the Ukrainian Alphabet into Latin Script.” The list of sources in the REFERENCES section must be formatted according to the international APA standard (American Psychological Association (APA) Style).
In addition, the following must be submitted with the article:
Metadata (in Ukrainian and English, or in three languages if necessary), including:
– author’s first and last name;
– academic degree and title;
– affiliation and position;
– ORCID;
– contact details (e-mail);
– title of the article.
Abstracts (in Ukrainian and English), briefly reflecting:
– the aim of the research;
– methodology;
– main results;
– practical significance.
Keywords:
– from 3 to 8 items;
– provided in Ukrainian and English.
Technical requirements for manuscripts:
- – Length: up to one publisher’s sheet (40,000 characters including spaces in the main text);
- – Text format: Microsoft Word; font: Times New Roman;
- – References cited in the text should follow the format [Lukaniuk 2022, p. 15], where Lukaniuk is the author, 2022 is the year of publication, and 15 is the page number; if several works by the same author were published in the same year, they should be distinguished in the reference list alphabetically by adding letters to the year: 2022a, 2022b, etc.;
- – Footnotes should be placed at the bottom of each page; numbering restarts on each page;
- – Figures and tables must fit within A5 format (portrait or landscape orientation), with maximum dimensions of 10.8 × 17 cm including captions;
- – Images, musical examples, diagrams, etc. should be placed within the text according to content and also submitted as separate files in .tif, .jpg, or .pdf format with consecutive numbering; photographs and figures in the text must include captions placed below the image (not within the image itself);
- – Tables should be prepared in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
The editorial board reserves the right to reject a submission if its academic quality, subject matter, or formatting does not meet these requirements. The editors also reserve the right to make editorial and linguistic revisions in agreement with the author.
Editorial policy regarding submissions
The editorial board reserves the right to:
– reject a submission if it does not comply with academic or technical requirements;
– return the manuscript for revision;
– make editorial and language corrections in agreement with the author.
Manuscripts that do not meet the requirements will not be considered.
