The annual scholarly journal “Ethnomusic” accepts articles and materials that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by other print or electronic academic (or scholarly-journalistic) publications. Submissions must demonstrate a high degree of scientific originality and possess significant theoretical and practical value in the field of ethnomusicology.

Submitted manuscripts must address current scientific issues, be based on a reliable methodological foundation, take into account and critically evaluate existing literature and other materials on the subject, and include a clear research aim, defined objectives, as well as scientific arguments and conclusions. A high degree of scientific originality and significant theoretical and practical value in the field of ethnomusicology are mandatory.

Articles submitted for publication must strictly comply with the specified scientific and technical requirements. If the work includes materials or individual items from other researchers (such as illustrations, diagrams, photos, etc.), authors must provide appropriate references or documentation of copyright permissions.

The list of references (in alphabetical order and in the original language) is placed at the end of the article. Its formatting should follow the rules of bibliographic description according to the examples provided in the Bulletin of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine dated October 22, 2015 (DSTU 8302:2015), taking into account subsequent amendments and additions.

The References section replicates the list of sources in the Latin alphabet and includes Cyrillic sources in transliterated form. Transliteration is performed according to the original language and in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 of January 27, 2010, “On the Standardization of Ukrainian Alphabet Transliteration into Latin Script.” The list of sources in the References section must be formatted according to international standards. Additionally, the following must be submitted:

  • Metadata containing information in two languages (Ukrainian and English) or three languages if the original text is in another language (original language, Ukrainian, English), including the author’s full name, academic degree, academic title, position and affiliation, ORCID, contact details (email, phone), and the title of the publication.
  • Abstracts (in Ukrainian and English), briefly outlining the research strategy, as well as its results and practical significance.
  • Keywords for each abstract (in Ukrainian and English) – no fewer than 3 and no more than 8 words or phrases in the nominative case, reflecting the main scientific content of the study.

Technical Requirements for Articles:

  • Length: up to 1 printed page (40,000 characters including spaces);
  • Text format: Microsoft Word; font: Times New Roman;
  • References in the text are indicated as [5, p. 15], where 5 is the reference number and 15 is the page number;
  • Footnotes are placed at the bottom of each page, with numbering starting anew on each page;
  • Images and tables must fit within A5 size in landscape or portrait orientation (no more than 10.8 × 17 cm, including captions);
  • Figures, musical scores, diagrams, etc., are placed according to content and also submitted as separate files in .tif, .jpg, or .pdf format with sequential numbering. Photos and figures in the text must include captions placed below the image, not within it;
  • Tables must be prepared in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.

An author may be denied publication if the manuscript’s scientific quality, topic, or formatting does not meet the specified requirements.
