Complaints Procedure for Breaches of Academic Integrity and Publication Ethics
The journal “Ethnomusic” adheres to high standards of publication quality and considers any reports of violations of academic integrity and ethics (fabrication or falsification of data, plagiarism, improper authorship, etc.) in accordance with the principles of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors and co-authors bear full responsibility for compliance with the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics.
The complaint must be clear, specific, and include evidence of the violation.
Submission of a complaint: a complaint regarding violations of the principles of academic integrity should be sent to the email address pndlme@ukr.net
Consideration of a complaint: acknowledgment of receipt of the complaint — up to 10 working days; investigation of the complaint — up to 60 working days.
The person in respect of whom the issue of non-compliance with the principles of academic integrity has been raised has the right to:
– to review the materials of the examination concerning the establishment of a violation of the principles of academic integrity and to submit comments on them;
– to provide oral and/or written explanations personally or through a representative, or to refuse to provide any explanations, and to take part in the examination of evidence of violations of the principles of academic integrity;
– to provide oral and/or written explanations personally or through a representative, or to refuse to provide any explanations, and to take part in the examination of evidence of violations of the principles of academic integrity;
– to be informed of the date, time, and place, and to be present during the consideration of the issue of establishing a violation of the principles of academic integrity and holding them academically liable;
– to appeal the decision on being held academically liable to the body authorized to consider appeals or to a court (Clause 8, Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine “On Education”).
In the event of confirmation of a violation of the principles of academic integrity, the following actions may be taken:
– rejection of the manuscript or retraction of the published article;
– publication of an official statement describing the violation; notification of the authors’ institutions and relevant authorities;
– prohibition on submitting materials to the journal for a specified period.
The complainant and the authors are informed of the results of the consideration of a complaint regarding violations of the principles of academic integrity in the event that a violation is confirmed. Authors and co-authors bear full responsibility for compliance with the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics.
